Description: Topaz opalescent coin dot 11" TALL vase, produced by the Fenton Art Glass Company in Williamstown, WV. Topaz is a bright yellow color that is produced using uranium oxide. And yes, it glows under black light! "Feel the inside of a coin dot piece, and you will find there is a hollow at each transparent area. Look through it, and you'll see an interesting optical effect - six dots on the far side making a daisy pattern inside each near dot... Certain kinds of glass, when allowed to cool slightly, will turn white or cloudy if reheated. This is the 'secret' of coin dot - the parts which you see as white are cooled briefly and warmed again at the 'glory hole' in an operation requiring about as much instinctive skills and judgment as anything you can imagine.." (From Fenton Art Glass Patterns 1939-1980 by Margaret & Kenn Whitmyer.) Year(s) of Production: 1959 only for this vase Markings: None Condition: Excellent condition without chips or cracks.
