UP FOR AUCTION AND FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION VINTAGE FENTON DRAGON & LOTUS CARNIVAL GLASS BOWL c. 1911 In excellent overall condition for the age is this unmarked, almost Antique in age (1911), made by Fenton Glass Co. out of Wheeling, W.VA true original in the pattern known as DRAGON & LOTUS, green in base color, close to evenly shaped eight (8)ruffle Early American Carnival Art Glass Bowl. Measuring 8 1/2" in diameter, stands flat with no wobble on a 3 1/4"diameter not so common collar base & approx. 2 ¼” tall to the top edge. Assocciated to production of this type of glass, the top edge has a tiny popped bubble,minor roughness to a couple of the "teeth" felt but not seen unless closely scrutinized , remnants of glass from being released from the mold on the exterior, again, common to production must be mentioned for accuracy. Keeping in mind that Old Carnival Glass pieces are now over 100 years old or fast approaching and these old timers with their original flaws add to the charm & beauty. Highly sought after by collectors, pieces even with flaws such as this piece are recognized as being authentic originals of Early American Carnival Glass & owning one is ownig a bit of Art Glass History. Over time some pieces do surcome to cracks, chips or the bumps & mishaps where there are no cracks, chips, no repairs to this Dragon & Lotus Bowl. An excellent mold strike of a repeated pattern of 4 Dragons & 4 Lotus blossoms separated by a single stemmed open lotus blossom on the sides of the satin type finish bowl, a center blossom with four individual smaller flowers inside a puzzle patterned band. The pattern fills the bowl near complete & shows quite nicely as the pattern is near evenly placed/pressed onto the bowl. An excellent application of iridescence displays an ELECTRIC center showing colors of amethyst, gold, blues ,greens & hue of yellow on a mirror finish with the Dragon & Lotus pattern shows matching in colors with silver(metal) more present on the upper portion of the pattern and closest to the top edge.A somewhat lighter application of sprayed iridescence with an overall gold & blue/green appearance J Very nice… Showing very little to no loss to the iridescence, no flaking, a couple of minut surface nics or fleabites, slight surface scratches( only noticed upon very close inspection). The plain, smooth to the touch semi-gloss in appearance exterior displays a lighter application spray closely matching the interior in color iridescence,as mentioned, a spot of extra glass (iridized)a couple of tiny pieces of glass(iridized)from the releasing of the mold, press/seam lines, couple of very small age related surface scratches. Please refer to the pictures as part of the description. Pre-ship weight is 1 1.2 lbs Hard to capture the truest essence of colors, like most old glass, especially Carnival, I try to show you different color displays & angles in natural daylight conditions. My pictures are not enhanced in any way unless disclosed in the listing. There may be some issues due to gentle use, handling and keeping in mind the age & glass production of the item, this is true for this Fenton piece as there are these minor "issues". Measuring in at 10" tall at the rim of the flame top, and graduating down in heighth it has great color, fabulous electric flashes of light and no chips, cracks or mars. Butterflies are generally very hard to see in these pieces, but we can see them nicely on this one. Stretched and faint, yes...but still clearly there as well as the berries showing well at the base of the piece. Measures at 2 & 5/8" wide at the base. Super piece for your collection!
